We mourn the passing of Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Hans Meixner who died on April 4, 2020. Professor Meixner was awarded the Deutscher Zukunftspreis 2005 together with his colleagues Friedrich Boecking and Dr. Klaus Egger for their project "Piezo Injectors: New technology for clean and economical diesel and gasoline engines".

At a time when the consequences for the environment of increasing motorization were not as obvious as they are today, the team and their developments introduced a technology capable of reducing fuel consumption and the harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides and diesel particulates.

In answering the question of what he sees as his distinguishing characteristics, he replied: "In my eyes, it is consistency. Not wanting one thing today and another tomorrow." It is precisely this consistency that made him a visionary innovator.
