Dr. Thomas Kalkbrenner, Dr. Jörg Siebenmorgen and Ralf Wolleschensky were honored with the Deutscher Zukunftspreis 2022 for their work on the technology and implementation of the new ZEISS Lattice Lightsheet Microscope. The Deutscher Zukunftspreis, the German Federal President’s Award for Technology and Innovation, is endowed with 250,000 euros.
The team then decided to devote their prize money to the promotion of the natural sciences. This has now been done, and the money used to open a space devoted to the teaching of science, specifically optics, at the Deutsches Optisches Museum in Jena, which has recently been opened to the public. This space serves as an experimental space and student lab, specifically for optics and is available to school classes.
