"I was somehow thinking of my family traditions - my ancestors over several centuries have all been textile people - and I said to myself, then I'll go into textile engineering. And that's where the story started." This is how Professor Peter Offermann describes the beginning of his scientific career. Since making this decision, he has experienced a lot: his work as a scientist in the German Democratic Republic, the reunification of Germany, then fascinating approaches to research with new materials culminating in the winning of the Deutscher Zukunftspreis in 2016.

Professor Peter Offermann who together with his colleagues Prof. Manfred Curbach and Prof. Chokri Cherif was awarded the German President's Award for Innovations in Science and Technology for their project "The fascinating material carbon concrete. Economical. Efficient. Excellent." is celebrating his 80th birthday today! We extend our heartfelt congratulations!

Happy Birthday!
