“To promote research purely for the sake of knowledge. To encourage researchers on their journey from scientific research to the application of their findings. To empower scientists to talk about their work and communicate the results of their research. These are topics promoted and supported by the Klaus Tschira Stiftung. The aim of the foundation is to enhance appreciation for the natural sciences, mathematics and computer science in society. The Klaus Tschira Stiftung supports the Deutscher Zukunftspreis, the German President's Award for Innovation in Science and Technology because it makes research and its potential visible and understandable.
Klaus Tschira, co-founder of the software company SAP, has always worked at the interface between science and business. Then as now, this is precisely where farsighted individuals who are willing to take risks are needed so that economic benefits can be drawn from the results of research.
It should not be forgotten that scientists alone are not enough to realize an invention. Without craftsmanship, technical or software know-how, an idea remains theory. This is why we should not only endeavor to encourage young people to embark on careers in research, but also to consider apprenticeship in these professions.”
