Bettina Stark-Watzinger
Member of the German Bundestag , Federal Minister of Education and Research
“Germany is one of the world's most important centres of research and innovation. As Federal Minister of Education and Research, my goal is to strengthen Germany's global leadership position because research and innovation are the key to overcoming grand societal challenges as well as to preserving our nation's prosperity and jobs. It is why I am committed to promoting research and innovation in Germany and enhancing the utilization of research results for commercial exploitation and societal applications. This is the only way Germany can remain a country of innovation.
Every year, the Deutscher Zukunftspreis, the German Federal President's Award for Technology and Innovation, recognizes seminal innovations of extraordinary relevance for industry and society that have successfully been translated into practice. The prize draws attention to outstanding innovations and achievements in science and technology in Germany and bears testimony to Germany's innovative strength. I am therefore particularly pleased that the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is one of the patrons of this important prize for innovation and thereby contributes to the recognition of outstanding achievements in research and innovation in Germany.”
