Anja Karliczek, Member of the German Bundestag , Federal Minister of Education and Research
“Germany is a land of innovation: our technologies, products and services are renowned all around the globe. We are one of the strongest countries in the world for research and innovation. We wish to maintain and further increase this success. To do so, new efforts are needed as technological progress, social change and international competition all pose major challenges. We are addressing these challenges. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research works to continuously reinforce support for research and development. We are also committed to the transfer of research findings. This includes making sure our citizens are involved in the innovation development process from the very beginning. It is crucial that research findings and new technologies become part of the everyday lives of as many people as possible. Only then can they help create added value and improve our quality of life.
The Deutscher Zukunftspreis, the German President's Award for Innovation in Science and Technology, plays an important part in this. It honours researchers who have brought the results of their work successfully to market and translated them into application. The prize is proof: research and innovation from Germany are the driving forces behind our progress. They make our daily lives easier and better.”
