Economy and Science

Top achievements in research and technology are of the utmost importance to ensure the innovative ability and competitive edge of the German economy. The Deutscher Zukunftspreis takes this fact into account.

It differs from other scientific prizes in that, in addition to honoring the scientific achievement, it places a high value on an innovation’s marketability and its potential for creating new jobs. It makes the public aware of the scientific and technical potential for innovation in Germany today.

The close association of science and business in not just a conceptual aspect of the prize. Science and industry are both equally represented in the bodies and committees responsible for the prize. This includes the Board of Trustees (the Kuratorium), all of whom are nominated by the Federal President, and the Jury, which is formed based on recommendations from the Board of Trustees.

It is not possible to apply for the Deutscher Zukunftspreis. Projects are recommended by those organizations that are entitled by statute to do so; in addition to major research organizations, this also includes the most important trade associations.

The Deutscher Zukunftspreis is made possible by the generous support of German companies and foundations.
