The Deutscher Zukunftspreis is one of Germany's most important awards for innovation. Among the chief criteria of the President's Award for Innovation in Science and Technology are forward-looking work and research and the development of a marketable product. The jury for the 2016 prize nominated three teams; they are among the "Circle of the Best" drawn from the rigorous selection process.
Just a few more days and it will be time - the jury will make its decision. In a festive evening event, the teams and their projects will be introduced to the public. German President Joachim Gauck will announce the winners and present the Deutscher Zukunftspreis 2016. This special occasion will mark the 20th anniversary of the Deutscher Zukunftspreis, and the winning innovator team will follow in the footsteps of the successful projects of its predecessors.
One of the evening's special guests is world famous artist Ólafur Elíasson who in his work intensively explores physical phenomena in nature. The journeys from an idea to its implementation shows how much creativity goes into scientific research. And it is exciting to see how other professions make a contribution. As a rule artists are attributed these creative powers. Scientists and artists take different paths, but are they not similar?
This question will be addressed by President Joachim Gauck and Ólafur Elíasson in the course of the ceremony.
The event will be held at STATION-Berlin and can be seen via livestream as of 6:00 p.m.; the broadcast of the event itself will be at 10:30 p.m. on ZDF.
