Prof. Karl Leo, Dr. Jan Blochwitz-Nimoth and Dr. Martin Pfeiffer are the winners of the Deutscher Zukunftspreis 2011. The President awards his “Prize for Technology and Innovation” to people who demonstrate creativity, knowledge and ability in their search for convincing solutions for marketable products.

Three teams – their goal is to be inducted into the Deutscher Zukunftspreis “Hall of Fame” at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. Just who this year’s prizewinner will be, will not be decided until December 14th in Berlin when Federal President Christian Wulff announces: “The 2011 prizewinner is …”

German President Christian Wulff visited the prizewinners of the Deutscher Zukunftspreis Dr. Frank Misselwitz, Dr. Dagmar Kubitza, and Dr. Elisabeth Perzborn in Wuppertal on May 23, 2011. The team from Bayer AG was awarded the 2009 president’s prize for Achievements and Innovations in Science and Technology for their project “Preventing Thromboses - One Tablet can save Lives”. The three researchers received the award for the development of the new anticoagulant rivaroxaban (Xarelto®).

This evening in Berlin German President Christian Wulff awarded the 2010 Deutscher Zukunftspreis to the developers of the project “Modeled on an Elephant’s Trunk - A High-tech Help for Industry and the Home”. The president’s prize for Innovations in Science and Technology is endowed with € 250,000 in prize money and honors both the development of the project but also its successful implementation on the market. The team’s innovation was selected over two other outstanding projects which the jury had nominated for the final round.

The head of the Office of the Federal President, State Secretary Dr. Lothar Hagebölling, today announced the three nominated research teams in the final round for the Deutscher Zukunftspreis. All of the projects presented are important topics for the future: How can we consume fewer resources and protect the environment? How can new ways of man-machine cooperation help an aging society? What basic technologies are there in the chemical industry?
