Peter Löscher, President and CEO of Siemens AG
"Innovations are the fuel for Germany’s innovation powerhouse. They give us a leading edge in global competition. And they secure our future.
Every year since 1997, the German Future Prize is awarded to three outstanding innovations - these are ideas which after many years of maturing in research have successfully found their way to actual application. As marketable products and solutions, these innovations create an added value for customers around the world.
In addition to the prizewinners, the German Future Prize is also won by
- The companies and research institutions as the partners of the prizewinners. Through the success of their innovation on the market, they are given the means to invest in the innovations of tomorrow.
- The customers because the prizewinning innovations open up possibilities for greater efficiency in production and thus advantages in competition.
- Germany as an industrial location because successful innovations create jobs and prosperity and give new glory to the reputation "Made in Germany".
Given the repeated prospects of winning, we are proud to be among the supporters and sponsors of the German Future Prize, particularly when we at Siemens are recreating innovations daily.
Innovations from Siemens have been providing answers to the pressing questions of time for more than 160 years. Whether climate change and its consequences, whether the challenges of demographic change or urbanization - we have the answers to the questions of our time. 32,000 of our employees in Research and Development ensure it. It is something that we invested almost € 4 billion in during the last fiscal year, almost 5 percent of our turnover – more than two-thirds of this amount was invested in Germany where we also employ 13,000 researchers and developers.
Investments in the power of innovation pay off: Siemens announces an average of 37 inventions every working day. We hold almost 55,000 active patents. And, Siemens teams have been among the winners of the German Future Prize three times already. This motivates us to continue to reach for the stars!
We want to be among the best and learn from the best.
That’s why Siemens is a partner of the German Future Prize."
